Third Prize: My Hero

The time has come to start posting the prizes for my Food Day Contest. In third place, we had nightmarejasmine , who requested a story with Elias Dawn and Eral the Arbor Pixie.

Some jokes just aren’t funny. As a demigod of mischief, Elias could attest to the fact that not everyone knew where that line was drawn. There was an art to it, a skill in doing no real harm with a trick. Sure, his trickster side sometimes almost went too far. Sometimes the temptation grew to cause more trouble than anyone deserved. But he never actually crossed that line, not when he was in control.

When the fellow at the bar raised his glass in a fake-drunk salute, Elias’ trickster side perked right up.

Contest Winners

First of all, thank you to those who entered the contest, and thanks to those who followed it! I hope everyone had a good time! Oscar certainly had some chances at good food for Food Day~

In Third place, earning a 500-600 word story written by me, we have:

Food Day?  by  @nightmarejasmine

This is such a cute little story. I can totally see Oscar being flustered that anyone would be angry on Food Day. He’d do his best to make sure everyone was enjoying themselves and having a lot to eat. It’d be the best day for him! Thank you so much for this charming and adorable story!

In Second place, earning a 1k word story written by me and a greyscale chibi by @creatorofuniverses :

Food Day  by @nightmares06

I loved this story about Oscar preparing for Food Day (he’s got to have all his chores in order for the big day!) and then going out borrowing. It really showcases how good of a borrower the little guy really is, and he earned some fantastic foods for all his effort. Thank you for bringing his celebration to life!

Oscar’s Food Day  by  panicattacknz

This story was such a ride! I was never sure where it might go next, but it all came together into such a lovely Food Day for Oscar. I especially love him helping his new buddy to work out his own Thanksgiving woes, and enjoying a warm meal with him in the meantime. Something tells me Sam and Dean would want to bring him more pie, if they could. Thanks for the wonderful Food Day adventure!

Thanks once again to everyone for helping Oscar have a good Food Day! I will be in contact with you soon to discuss your prizes.

“Food Day” Contest

neonthewrite:

neonthewrite:

This year I didn’t get my energy in a row in time to do another Halloween costume contest for my shy little borrower Oscar. However! In late November there comes a time when lots of humans are inexplicably more preoccupied with food (and lots of it). Oscar doesn’t know where this “Thanksgiving” holiday comes from, but he can definitely attest that a Food Day is a Good Day.

What I’d like to see from entries is your take on Thanksgiving for the little guy. It can be art or writing, as long as it includes some indication that Thanksgiving is involved. This contest isn’t going to run for very long and is meant to be more relaxed, so submissions need not be super fancy. Don’t do an extravagant painting or a novella for it (unless you want to, I guess!).

The deadline is December 8 at 11pm Central Standard Time.

Rules

  • Must include Oscar having some Thanksgiving fun. What kinds of food would he be most drawn to? That’s up to you to imagine.
  • Other characters are allowed, but the submission won’t be judged based on any other characters
  • Keep it clean and respectful; Thanksgiving does not mean the same thing to everyone, and it carries its own issues. That said, for many it is about family gatherings and an excuse to eat good food, and that’s the sort of feeling I’d like this contest to take inspiration from. Oscar is all about the chance for a feast!

Prizes

Since it’s a short contest and it’s pretty chill, for now I have only a few prizes up for grabs. If I get a lot of entries, I can reconsider that and I’ll announce it as soon as I know.

2nd Place

3rd Place

  • 500-600 word story written by me

I’m guessing most people who follow me know who Oscar is from at least one story, but just in case, here’s a link to a few example pictures. Let me know if you need links to other resources about him; there are lots of stories out there to choose from.

In order to enter, you can post your entry on Tumblr or DeviantArt (if you don’t have an account on either, Archive of Our Own is also acceptable for writing). Then either @ me on tumblr or send me a note on DeviantArt (I am PL1 there). I’ll make a post with entries (or possibly add them to this one). If you made an entry and don’t see yours added to the list after a reasonable amount of time, let me know! There’s a chance I might miss it.

First Prize: The Swap

For @torchmlp.

They won my Oscar Halloween Contest an age ago and requested a body swap story with Jacob and Sam, set in the Brothers Found AU (created by myself and the wonderful @nightmares06  and you can find more info @brothersapart).

This one is set not long after the first installment of that AU (and well before Jacob in Wonderland … for reasons). Shenanigans are unavoidable with a body swap and these poor dorks have a lot to navigate here. And of course, I had to end it off on the cheesiest note possible.

( Link to full story )

The night after a hunt was always the toughest part to adjust to. The bone-deep exhaustion clung after finding the latest monster and killing it before it could hurt anyone else. Jacob was glad Sam always convinced Dean to let him stay in the motel room for a night after the fact.

He was new to this. He had a lot to learn, but after reuniting the four-inch-tall Sam Winchester with his brother, Jacob’s eyes were open to the job. They could help people. He could help people.

Like he’d helped Dean get his little brother back after years not knowing he was even alive.

2nd Prize: Gossip Girl

For @therealbrigeedarocks! I was asked to do a story set in her FFH universe, which honestly was a lot of fun (I sure hope I got my facts right o: ). Hope you like it!

( FFH on DA ) ( @askfarfromhome )

Tapered, elegant fingers brushed across the black and white keys. Expert hands moved with the rhythm and she swayed in time, her own metronome. When she closed her eyes, she could imagine it, a concert hall with nothing on the stage but her and the piano. She’d played nothing but sold out shows for years.

When she opened her eyes again, vertical bars of clean, dull metal greeted her on the other side of the plain piano. The notes she played became more percussive as the melody crescendoed. It was her attack on the house-sized cage around her, the only weapon she had.

A voice in the hall caught her attention and the song faltered away. Mindy turned on the bench to watch as, on the other side of the living room, the flat’s door opened to admit a giant twelve times her size.

Halloween Costume Contest 2017 Results

Alright, this was super fun and I was so happy every time I got an entry! I’m so glad it went over well with everyone.

Then the deadline hit and I realized I’d have to pick the winners. Omg. ;w;  It was such a task, but I am pleased with the results, so here they are.

In third place, we have:

@not-your-everyday-smol, with

Mousie

Oscar!

I adore this costume. We all had a lot of similar thoughts for Oscar, who is pretty much an honorary mouse himself. N.Y.E.S. had a take on the mousie costume with an emphasis on found materials and Oscar’s own talent for sewing. I’m sure he will be hard pressed to put this one away after the candy hunt is over, since it looks so warm and cozy.

In Second place:

@therealbrigeedarocks / @thebrigeedadraws, with Nobody Suspects the Gourd!

Dang, guys. This one was heckin’ creative, was it not? The thought of Oscar putting something like this together so he can sneak candy and also effectively flee with said candy is super entertaining, and I love it. He is a clever little guy. I like how Bee called back to a not-often-seen side of Oscar: that he loves holiday decorations and stuff like that. Why not just be one for halloween? Gets him some candy!

And in First Place:

@torchmlp with An Oz In Shining Armor

“Um, what’s Hollowbean?” Oscar said, speaking up.

“It’s Halloween not hollow bean!” Sam said, his excitement coming back. “And I forgot you didn’t know what it is! It’s basically the best holiday ever! You get to dress up in cool costumes and go to people’s houses and they give you free candy!”

“Candy sounds nice, but I don’t think I would like going to people’s houses.” It did sound like fun, but Oscar wasn’t too keen on any other humans seeing him. He didn’t think other people would be as nice as Dean.

Sam nodded. “Yeah, I guess it isn’t safe for us, but we could still dress up!”

“And I can always get us some candy from the gas station,” Dean said.

“That could be fun. But what would I dress up as?”

There is one knight in the Knight’s Inn motel, and that knight is timid little Oscar. Torch wrote a very cute and very in-character piece detailing Oscar donning some aluminum-foil armor, complete with a helmet that doesn’t quite fit (maybe he’ll grow into it someday). I really love the image it put in my head of the tiniest little guy holding up his toothpick sword, ready to slay dragons and rescue princesses and candy!

Once again, thank you so much to all entrants! I had a blast seeing what would come out of this one, and not a single one was disappointing. They were all adorable and I love them forever. ❤

Congratulations to the winners! I’ll be in touch soon, or you can feel free to message me with your preferred mode of communication regarding prizes and we can work things out from there. 🙂
